Take off time is normally quite early in the morning so we recommend to take an overnight hotel in Padang (PDG) to ensure that you do not miss your takeoff time. A little bit of shared wisdom | In case you cannot find your flight route, trying booking your international flight to Jakarta (CDG), Kuala Lumpur (KUL) or Singapore (SIN) then book your onwards journey to Padang (PDG) separately.
We only recommend using Garuda Air, Citilink or Air Asia. The other local airlines are infamously unreliable.

There is a weight limit of about 1000 kg on the plane, this includes; people, bags, boards and fresh food for your trip. Normally with a full plane, we would recommend 2-3 boards; your daily driver, a fun board and a step up.
You can apply for an e-visa before departure - follow the link choose B1 - Tourist (visa on arrival) if you plan to stay for less than 30 days in Indonesia.
If you choose to stay on for up to 60 days, choose a C1 Tourist Single Entry Visa.
Payment is required and can be settled online.
Don't forget to also complete an e-customs declaration and save the QR code for your arrival into Indonesia.

Padang airport is tiny - if you get lost, just ask anyone for directions, or walk around for 5 minutes, you will cover the whole airport. Once you have cleared customs (if required) pick up your bags and boards and head out to Arrivals. From here, one of our assigned drivers will be waiting for you - holding a board with your name / Raja Utara on it.
If you get lost / cannot find the driver / need some emotional support - just message us on WhatsApp.
We would recommend to bring a little cash on your trip to Indonesia. A few hundred dollars worth will cover you in case you want to buy some things in the smaller shops that don't accept cards, a souvenir from the local shell boys, or even as tips for our crew.
As per the Kepala Desa's request | please do not to give the local children cash as you enter the island via the airport.

Yes, Sibaranun can be explored on foot, and the other island are a short boat ride away. Our team can help get you there!
The islands are safe, and all the locals are very friendly. On Sibaranun, you are free to dress as your please, but if you venture further a field, please be respectful and make sure to wear a little more than just a bikini.
There is a mixture of Christian and Muslims across the islands. Westerners are warmly welcomed, we just request that you respect their religion and peace.
Where there are mosquitos, these risks will always be present. We advise our guests to do their own due diligence before coming out to make sure they have made their own informed decision regarding malaria medication.
Emergency Medical Evacuation insurance is a non-negotiable here due to the remote nature of the islands. There is a modest hospital on the nearby island of Telos, but incase of a serious issue, you will need to head to the main island of Sumatra.

We cover half the cost of the chartered flight - to help make your holiday as seamless as possible. In the event of a cancellation, you will need to take on the full cost of the flight cancellation fees according to the above table.
There will be a modest selection of alcohol on site - mainly Bintang beers, that will be available to purchase after you have sipped through your daily 6-can limit.
As specialist / Western food and drinks are hard to come by on the islands, we recommend that you bring your creature comforts with you. Our best advice is to pick up a bottle (or two) from duty-free to enjoy without corkage charge at Raja Utara.
Our chef cooks local styled meals with a western twist using locally sourced foods. If you have any particular dietary requirements, please let us know well in advance so we can ensure to get the ingredients in on time.

No compromises on which waves to surf as there are 2 boats to choose from and 2 breaks within walking distance. Our Surf Skate Bowl is a beautifully crafted wooden bowl that provides a smooth ramps for surf skaters to refine their technique. Using specialised surf skate boards that mimic the motion of surfing, guests can practise turns, flow, and balance — all without entering the water. While we don’t currently offer retreats, this is something coming in the future.
The Telos are best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers who already have some ocean experience. The waves here break over reef and offer everything from playful walls to hollow barrels — consistent, powerful, and endlessly surfable, but not ideal for complete beginners.
Raja Utara welcomes guests year-round, though the most consistent surf season runs from April to October, when long-period Indian Ocean swells light up the Telos. The shoulder months of March and November often bring smaller, cleaner waves and calmer conditions — perfect for those seeking solitude and glassy sessions. Even outside the peak months, the islands remain warm, uncrowded, and alive with the rhythm of the ocean.
We don’t provide childcare or nanny services, and we’re unable to arrange them on your behalf. However, guests are very welcome to bring their own trusted staff if they wish. Raja Utara is designed as a space to unwind, surf, and reconnect — we encourage families to plan in a way that allows everyone to fully relax and enjoy the experience.
Yes — we ensure that an experienced western surf guide is available to take guests out. With extensive knowledge of the local breaks and a focus on safety, your guide will help you find the best waves for the conditions — so all you need to do is paddle out and enjoy.
Raja Utara is equipped with standard first-aid kits and a stretcher for use in medical emergencies. Our team is trained in basic first aid and emergency response procedures to ensure guest safety while awaiting professional assistance if ever required.
